Prescription Policy

Effective January 1, 2012

Prescription medications (including Heartworm preventatives and prescription diets) require a valid doctor/patient relationship, by federal law.  An examination within one year is necessary to dispense or prescribe prescription medications.  If the exam is overdue, one months' worth of maintenance may be dispensed to allow the patient to be scheduled for an exam, one time only.

We may be able to dispense medications to non-local animals in special circumstances (i.e. out-of-town tourists).  This may be done if we stock the medication and receive a prescription from the animals' regular veterinarian.
